PDP strategises to retake power in Kwara - Publicity Secretary

Date: 2015-12-11

The People's Democratic Party, (PDP) has put necessary arrangements in place to retake power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Kwara State through the forthcoming 2016 local government council elections.

The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Rex Olawoye disclosed this yesterday in Ilorin while speaking with journalists on the party's readiness to regain power in Kwara.

Olawoye said the party's state executive members have undertaken tour of the 16 Local Government Areas in the state to ascertain causes of the PDP's defeat in the 2015 March/April general elections.

He said the tour afforded the party opportunity to resolve intra party crises and convince the people about the PDP's mission to turn around fortune of the state for better.

Olawoye said the last six months of the APC in the saddle has further proved the need to return power to the people and prevent money bags from hijacking political Parties in Kwara.

He lamented that local councils in the state could not perform and deliver democratic dividends to the people in spite of staggering amount from Federation account.

Olawoye added that inability of councils to pay staff/primary schools salaries for four months has voided claim by Alhaji AbdulLateef Okandeji, State Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, (ALGON) that local councils in the state enjoy full autonomy.

He said the mode by which APC councilors got to the office puts them at the mercy of power that be and being unable to checkmate their local council chairmen in defence of public good.

Olawoye said a visit to local councils in neighbouring state like Oyo would show that local governments were tarring roads with as asphalt as against inability of councils in Kwara to ordinarily grade rural roads.

He said the political scenario vis-a- vis dwindling fortune of the people in Kwara informed the PDP's readiness to return the party and power to the people and prevent money bags from hijacking political parties.

The PDP image maker said owners of the party in the state henceforth would be financial members who pay up their monthly due of N50 and willingly contribute their quota according to their capacities.
