Insecurity hampering growth of industry, commerce - KWACCIMA
The President of the chamber, Chief Hezekiah Adediji, stated this during a media briefing marking the inauguration of Kwara Coalition of Business and Professional Association in Ilorin on Tuesday.
He said many industries and banks were no longer operational, while traders were afraid to engage in commercial activities for fear of attacks.
He called on the government to provide an enabling environment for businesses and professional bodies to thrive. He, therefore, urged the government to provide more infrastructure and address the power challenge urgently, stressing that many industries and businesses had collapsed as a result of high operational costs.
According to him, if power problem is solved, for instance in the state, 100 per cent of productivity will be achieved.
He added that efforts must be geared towards the provision of jobs, creation of business-enabling environment and reduction of insecurity so as to attract foreign investment into the country.
Adediji said the group, a non-governmental and non partisan association with 208,000 members, was ready to partner and work closely with the government by using advocacy means to achieve crucial development in the Organised Private Sector and enable the sector to take a strategic and process-oriented approach to problems and challenges in the economy.
