NASU tips Ambali for higher national assignment
Delegates to the Quadrennial Conference of the Universities Trade Group Council of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have recommended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), to the Federal Government for a position of higher responsibility on account of his proven skills, intellect and humane dispositions.
The Chairman of the Universities Trade Group, Comrade S.A. Adefemi, stated this last Wednesday, (September 9, 2015) while declaring open the Group's Quadrennial Delegates Conference at the New Science Lecture Theatre, University of Ilorin.
Comrade Adefemi urged the delegates to challenge the managements of their various universities with the standards that they met at the University of Ilorin. He noted that in a time of positive change such as Nigeria is experiencing now, bad people should be replaced by good people such as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin since there is no second term provision for Vice -Chancellors.
Earlier, the NASU General Secretary in charge of Universities Trade Group, Comrade Felix Ajayi, commended the management of the University of Ilorin for refurbishing the NASU bus, saying that the Vice-Chancellor had made NASU comfortable by the gesture.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the University of Ilorin Branch of NASU, Comrade (Mrs.) Olabisi Fadeke Adeshina, expressed her delight to host the event at an institution that is known for its peaceful environment, learning and development. She said, "The University of Ilorin has been able to carve a niche for itself as a peaceful campus where everyone is focused on excellence and institutional development."
In his speech, entitled "Service Delivery", the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ambali, noted that NASU symbolises the University's committed workforce and urged the union to remain steadfast on the path of dedicated service. Prof. Ambali pointed out that the University is always ready to provide platforms where development ideas are ignited and urged the unionists to always be dedicated and aspire for greater achievements.
He said it is part of the University management's "ways of encouraging hard work that the University recognised those who are outstanding in service delivery. I am aware that some NASU members had been given merit awards and have been duly recognised during our past convocation ceremonies and this will continue to be so."
