Kwara Unveils New Logo

The Kwara State government says it is setting the foundation for the long term prosperity of the state and people. The state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatahi Ahmed, stated this at the 2012 Democracy Day and one year in office of the current administration held at the Metropolitan Square, Asa-Dam road, Ilorin.

Governor Ahmed stated the current administration intends to market the state as the right place for foreign direct investment. He said the administration has achieved a lot as well as taken steps to make Kwara State a state of reference to others.

Governor Ahmed said under the shared prosperity programme the government has built and renovated 13 general and 32 cottage hospitals, 15 primary hospitals and complete overhaul of Ilorin, Omuaran, Offa and Kaiama hospitals.

In the education sector, Ahmed said his administration has implemented free education with the abolishment of fees and levels in primary and secondary school while reducing the fees of the Kwara State University by thirty percent.

He stated that the Kwara State School for the special need has been fully rehabilitated and his goverment has renovated 200 blocks of classrooms across the state.

Governor Ahmed said 42 communities are currently enjoying regular electricity with the distribution of transformers adding that within the last one year the government has renovated over 600km of roads.

He stated that the government has employed over 2000 youths and provided 1000 with permanent employment.

The event also witnessed the unveiling of a brand new logo of the state which has in it peace, enterprise and progress and official launch of call cabs by the executive governor of Kwara State.

Femi Akorede, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Kwara state Governor, said "the cassava leaves and tractor on the logo represent our strides and strengths in agriculture, our solid tourism potential is represented by the river, the cowries depict Kwarans' age-long reputation for commerce whie the antelope represents our peaceful disposition as a people."

Among those at the event were Senator Bukola Saraki, representing Kwara State Central senatorial district, Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Barrister Rasaq Atunwa and Chairman Federal Character Commission and Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Oba Abdulraheem.
