An Ilorin Magistrate's court has ordered that a 27-year old man, Lukman Salihu be remanded for allegedly raping a 15- year old girl in Ilorin, Kwara State. The suspect was arraigned on two- count charge of gross indecency and procurement of minor girl contrary to section 285 and 275 of penal code law.

According to the Police First Information Report(FIR) the case was consequent upon a complaint by one Adijat Bolanle of Gambari area, Ilorin who reported at 'C' Division police station,Oja- Oba, Ilorin.

The complainant was said to have reported that on July 19,2015, she was informed the suspect was having love affairs with her under-aged daughter.

According to the FIR during the interrogation by the mother, her daughter confessed that the accused had "sexual intercourse with her twice in his apartment around Gambari area, Ilorin".

The charge sheet added that during preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to have committed the alleged crime.

He, however, pleaded not guilty when arraigned before the court.

The prosecutor, Godwin Azua who said investigation on the matter was ongoing asked the court to remand the suspect to prevent him from tampering with the Police investigation on the matter.

The defendant's counsel, Mr Olagunju Ridwan urged the court to grant his client bail, arguing that the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.

In his ruling, the trial Magistrate,Mr J. Salihu ordered that the accused be remanded in the custody of the Federal Prisons, Madalla, Ilorin and adjourned the case till August 3,2015.
