Don Commends Buhari For Sacking Service Chiefs

Date: 2015-07-15

Following the removal of service chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, reactions have begun to trail the decision, viewing it as the right step in the right direction.

A political scientist and one time Head of Political Science Department of the University of Ilorin, Dr. Gbade Ojo who reacted on the development maintained that the decision taken by the president was imperative at this point in time when the country is battling with serious terrorism attacks, which the previous service chiefs could not effectively tackle.

Dr. Ojo expressed the view on Monday while featuring on a live television programme in Lagos State, where he disclosed that the decision of the president was in line with the need to restrategize on the security lapses in the country. According to him, there was a serious strategic lapses on part of one of the former service chiefs who was disclosing the whereabouts of the abducted Chibok girls, which he said should have been made a secrete.

"In strategic studies, until you are able to win the war, you don't go out and tell us where the Chibok girls were, until you are able to liberate them. Immediately he made the announcement, the girls were relocated."

"That was a serious lapses on the part of that particular service chief," Dr. Ojo pointed out.

He advised the newly appointed service chiefs to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors, stating that the new service chiefs should collaborate with their colleagues in neighbouring countries.

Ojo, the immediate past special adviser to Gov Abiola Ajimobi on Political Matters, observed that the country's tecno-economic structure needed to be improved upon in order to be able to tackle the terrorism threats, adding that without technology, terrorism could not be fought effectively. "Terrorism is like a gorilla warfare, it is not a conventional warfare."

"Nigeria needs to be more security concious wherever we found ourselves," he warned.
