Senate Presidency - Saraki Enlists Akpabio, Ex-Governors Support

Date: 2015-05-15

Former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, Tuesday night, met with the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Godswill Akpabio to solicit the support of senators from PDP states in his bid to win the senate presidency seat.

The meeting which held at the Nicon Transcorp Hotel in Abuja, lasted for about three hours and had in attendance former governors as well as senators-elect from various political parties.

The meeting said a reliable source, started with those in attendance being asked to suggest leadership qualities expected of the person they would want to be Senate President.

Sources at the meeting said all at the meeting agreed that the new Senate President should be one who commands respect and is accessible to all members and whose patriotism is not in doubt, has contacts across the country and one who has pleasant disposition towards others.

The source said the meeting agreed after many had spoken, that the relevant qualities stipulated by all in the meeting are found in Saraki.

"We all agreed that these qualities are found in Senator Saraki because he is humble and has respect for all so the support was unanimous," he said.

He said highpoint of the decision was that all the senators-elect at the meeting agreed that it would be better for the senators to decide who should be their leaders and not allow candidates to be imposed on them.
