Electricity official escapes mob attack in Ilorin
The official works with the Baboko Division of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). He escaped the mob attack following the intervention of elders of the community at Baboko in Ilorin. The youths were angry over poor electricity distribution. Daily Trust gathered that the angry residents assembled upon sighting the power company staff who was in the area to distribute the monthly electricity bills.
The residents were said to have accosted the IBEDC official for having the guts to distribute bills despite poor electricity supply.
The residents alleged that the electricity company snubbed their persistent pleas over poor power supply in the area when other nearby areas such as Eruda, Oja-Tuntun, Agbo-Oba and Taiwo were enjoying adequate supply.
Elders in the area had to pacify the mob to allow the official to leave unharmed. They then warned against distributing bills until the poor supply is addressed.
It would be recalled that residents of the state last week complained over inadequate supply which they said had crippled their businesses.
The state House of Assembly to pass a resolution calling on the electricity company to address the problem. The Business Manager of IBEDC, Engr. Moyosade Kayode, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
