Kwara Police warns private security guards on election involvement
The Kwara State Police Command has said there is no official roles for all the Private Security Operatives in the general elections, as the Vigilante Group of Nigeria promised to comply with Police order.
The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Salihu Garuba said this yesterday during a press briefing held at the Police Headquarters, Ilorin, the state capital to sensitise the people of the state on Police readiness for the exercise. Garuba stated "the command is using this medium to warn that hunters, vigilantes, and other Quasi state uniformed security outfits will not be allowed to play any official role on the days of the elections".
The Police Boss also warned all political thugs, hoodlums, criminals and hooligans 'who may want to foment trouble, cause fear and intimidate in order to disenfranchise the good people of Kwara.
'That the security agencies will not fold their arms while some unscrupulous elements will jeopardize the peaceful and harmonious conduct of the elections'.
The Police Command while assuring the people the security of lives and properties during and after the elections processes, said the command in synergy with other sister security agencies have resolved not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the elections of tomorrow and April 11 are conducted in a peaceful and violence free environment .
He announced that vehicle movement will be restricted from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on the elections except vehicles on essential duties, such as Fire Service, Security Agencies, Ambulance, INEC, National, International observers among others.
The Police also warned all vulcanizers to remove every used tires in their operational point before 6:00pm Friday (today),adding that anyone or group arrested for violating these orders will face the full wrath of the law Reacting to this in an Interview with The Herald, the State Acting Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Mr Saadu Boluwaduro assured police that all members of the VGN in the state will comply with the police directive.
Saadu however warned all the men and officers of the VGN to desist from any unlawful act during general elections scheduled to commence from tomorrow He also mentioned that all the VGN members have been adequately informed on the electoral law.
He also commended the state Police Command for various achievements recorded in the recent time, particularly during the political party campaigns and various party primaries.
