Nigerians must unite - Primate Olabayo

Date: 2014-09-07

The Primate and founder of the Evangelical Church of Yahweh worldwide, Apostle Theophilus Olabayo, has advised Nigerians to be united regardless of ethnic or religious background. Olabayo gave the advice while speaking at the end of a 10-day national convention of the Church christened 'Taborah' in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital last weekend.

He said: "We must preach unity in this country regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds. Whether you are Hausa, Ibo or Yoruba, we should come together as one. That is my message to all Nigerians".

The cleric also warned the political class against plunging the country into anarchy after 2015 polls.

He added that if the general election is not handled carefully, the outcome may result in the formation of an Interim National Government (ING) as an alternative. He, however, expressed optimism that the nation will neither be divided nor be at war after the election.

"I have been talking about next year elections. There will be no war after the election and the country will not be divided. But what God told me is that, if care is not taken by the political class, there will be no election. It is either the election will be inconclusive or they may try to form an interim government.

"We are only witnessing chaos presently. But this country will witness more political storm and Tsunami if the politicians continue to heat the polity. We shall witness how the mighty will fall", he stressed.

According to Olabayo, "I foresee anarchy because we are heading towards anarchy with the way and manner the political class is handling issues. This country need to be very prayerful. The politicians will undo themselves and consume themselves.

"More importantly, Nigeria needs to take care of the poor people. It is because of the love I have for this country, that I am still talking. If not, I would have adopted 'sit-down' look approach."

He also cautioned President Goodluck Jonathan to be weary of sycophants around him, lamenting that corruption was the bane of the country. He said: "The President should be careful about sycophants around him. He needs to seek for spiritual solution to the various challenges currently bedevilling the nation. Corruption is one major problem facing Nigeria. We are all involved. Everybody is involved, including Muslims and Christians."
