KWHA orders removal of Gari-Alimi round-about traffic light
Kwara State House of Assembly has ordered the state ministry of works and transport to relocate without further delay, the installed traffic lights at the Gari-Alimi roundabout in Ilorin.
The house has directed the ministry to relocate the facility to a more suitable, T. Junction in the state in order to check traffic congestion occasioned by the installation.
The house gave directive in its resolutions while considering the report of the house committee on energy, works and transport on a matter of General Public Importance raised by a member representing Ileshin,/ Gwawara Constituency Hon. Suleiman Idris.
Idris, among other reasons hinged his decision on the hardship being faced by commuters and pedestrians as a result of the Installation.
The committee who report was presented by Hon. Hassan Oyeleke had noted that the traffic light at the Gari-Alimi roundabout was not only creating confusion but increased valuable time loss in the roundabout.
The House Deputy Speaker, Professor Mohammed Gana Yisa who presided over the session while reading the resolutions of the House, observed that a roundabout was a traffic control mechanism, adding that the current situation painted to the fact that the objective of installing the traffic lights had been defeated.
The house however commended the state ministry of works and transport for its proactiveness at making the state capital a modern city.
