Date: 2014-06-13

An NGO, Centre for Appropriate Technology (CAPTECH), on Thursday said it had assisted no fewer than 300 schools in Kwara within the last 12 years of its establishment.

Mr Sanni Olumuyiwa, the organization's facilitator in Irepodun Local Government Area, said this at a training session for its committee members in Omu-Aran, Kwara.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the organization established in 1992 is being funded by the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria.

Olumuyiwa said the organization’s educational intervention programme across the 16 local government areas of the state was made possible through its School Based Management Committee (SBMC) initiative.

He said the SBMC comprised of people from diverse backgrounds in each council and trained to evolve workable mechanism in complementing government efforts on schools development.

Olumuyiwa said part of the committee’s functions was to contribute to overall planning, maintenance and monitoring of schools to enable the larger community have a voice in improving education.

``No fewer than 300 schools across the 16 local government areas of the state had benefited one way or the other through such intervention by SBMC under CAPTECH since inception,” Olumuyiwa said.

He gave the names of some schools that had benefited within the council as ECWA Demonstration School, Community LGEA School and Nomadic Primary School, Gaa Ajo, all in Oko.

Olumuyiwa said most of the benefiting schools got additional classrooms, tables and chairs, school uniforms and stationery. (NAN)
