Date: 2014-06-02

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that the state government had invested N3.7bn in the remoulding, reconstruction, staffing and modern medical equipment of five general hospitals in the state.
The hospitals, according to him, are in Ilorin, Share, Omu-Aran, Offa and Kaiama.

He spoke during the inauguration of the Offa and Omu-Aran general hospitals in Kwara State on Monday.
He stated that the completion of remoulding work, staffing and equipping of the hospitals were government’s steps to ensure a health system that is modern, affordable, and accessible.

“On this day, we fulfill our pledge to bequeath a state-of-the-art health facility to the vibrant Offa and Omu-Aran Communities and their environs.

“Certainly, our determination to provide qualitative health-care necessitated the renovation and equipping of five general hospitals.

“It was also in line with our policy thrust of providing accessible health care within 500 meters radius state-wide,” he said.
The governor said the remodeled general hospital are additional to complement the provision of health care services by sister hospitals within and around the areas.

He stated that aside from the structural renovation and installation of modern medical equipment, the hospitals also boast of qualified and committed medical personnel that can compete favorably anywhere in the world.

“My administration’s visible strides in the health sector testify to our recognition of quality health care as a precondition for sustained human capital development.

“We have demonstrated this commitment through the remodeling of Offa, Ilorin, Omu-Aran, Share and Kaiama General Hospitals as well as the distribution of drugs and equipment to 13 general hospitals and 43 primary healthcare centers.
“Significant as they are, these interventions only reflect the beginning of great things in the sector.

“Let me reiterate that efforts are on-going to renovate and equip an additional five General Hospitals in the State,” Ahmed said.

He pledged that his administration will be just, equitable and fair in the distribution of modern infrastructure across the state.

He added that it will continue to insulate the process from partisan considerations.

The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji  Kayode Isah urged the benefiting communities to ensure optimun use and sustenance of the hospitals.
