Letters - Re: Attention, Kwara State Governor
I refer to a letter written by Jimoh Mumin and published in the Nigerian Tribune of Wednesday, March 26, 2014, regarding the delayed payment of scholarships to Nigerian Law School students of Kwara origin. For the record, the government has paid bursaries to Kwara State students in tertiary institutions across the country and scholarships to those at the Nigerian Law School for several years.
The delay in 2013 payments was caused by the verification of beneficiaries at the Law Schools, and the resource challenges in the outgone year.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is aware of the difficulties caused by the unfortunate delay and has directed the payment of all outstanding payments once modalities are concluded.
Moreover, adequate provision has been made for the payment of scholarships and bursaries to qualifying students in the 2014 budget. All eligible students will be paid once the budget is signed into law and verification completed.
Dr Muyideen Akorede,
Senior Special Assistant (Media and Communication) to the Executive Governor.
Government House,
Ilorin.
