Bomb attacks meant to silence press - Saraki

Date: 2012-04-27

Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has condemned the bomb attacks on ThisDay offices in Abuja and Kaduna.

According to a statement by his media aide, Mr. Akintoba Fatigun, on Thursday, Saraki said the attacks were attempts "to silence and intimidate the media" by the perpetrators.

The former Kwara State governor called on security operatives to arrest those behind the attacks, adding that they should face justice.

He condoled with the publisher of ThisDay, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, and the staff of the newspapers.

He advised that no amount of intimidation should deter Obaigbena and ThisDay staff from standing by the truth all the time, adding that they should continue to be the voice of the voiceless.

He also consoled the families of the dead that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss and grant the deceased, eternal rest.
