UNILORIN spends N550m on WAUG - VC

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has said that the school spent about N550m to host the 13th West African Universities Games.

Oloyede told our correspondent at the end of the competition on Friday that N500m was spent on capital investment and N50m on recurrent expenditure.

He said he was pleased with the successful hosting of the games. He commended the conduct of the athletes and officials, describing this as fantastic.

Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, described sports as a veritable way to promote peace, friendship, national integration and cohesion.

Ahmed, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Kayode Towoju, expressed satisfaction at the successful hosting of the competition in Kwara State.

Ahmed said, "Sports is a means of promoting friendship even internationally. This is a lasting legacy. Sports is a worthy investment.

"We thank God that Kwara State has been able to host the games. We give kudos to our own university for successfully hosting the games. We are proud of them."

The 13th edition of WAUG came to a close with a football match between the host university - UNILORIN and Federal University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State. FUTY defeated UNILORIN 1-0.
