Teenagers arraigned for burglary
Two teenagers, Yusuf Bolanta, 21 of No. 17, Bolanta, Ilorin and Ibrahim Tunde, 19ofOffa-Garage, Ilorin, who allegedly conspired and broke into a shop have appeared before an Ilorin Magistrate Court.
They appeared on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, shop breaking and theft. The offences contravene Sections 97,355 and 287 of Penal Code Law.
The accused allegedly committed the crime on March 27, 2012 when they burgled the shop of Mummy ' J' Beer Parlour at Pipeline Road, Ilorin and stole 10 different brands of bottles of beer and a Samsung DVD player, valued at N8,000.
They were caught on the second day of the incident while they were trying to dispose off the DVD player.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation revealed that the accused actually committed the crime and also confessed to the crime.
The prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Asua told the court that investigation into the case is still on going. He objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them at the Federal Prison, llorin, pending the out come of the investigation.
The defence counsel urged the court to admit the accused to bail since they denial the allegation, adding that Section 35 (6) of the 999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria still presumed the accused innocent of the allegation until contrary is proved.
The trial judge, Magistrate Folashade Akorede declined the .submission of the prosecutor and admitted the accused to bail at the sum of N20,000 and two sureties in the like sum.
The case was adjourned to April 17,2012 for further hearing.
