Kwara Govt. Appeals to Nurses, Midwives Not to Join Proposed Strike
The Kwara State Government has appealed to the state chapter of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives not to join the proposed strike slated for Monday.
The appeal was contained in a statement signed by Mrs Olawumi Elegbede, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing Services.
The appeal is in the best interest of the people, she said, adding that the nursing profession is a sensitive and humanitarian one.
She called on the nurses and midwives to consider the loss of lives that might follow the strike.
The governor’s aide urged them to remember that many patients could not afford the bills of private hospitals should they embark on the strike.
The statement said Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed was poised to create giant strides in the health sector with the rehabilitation and equipment of five general hospitals to high standard.
Elegbede said the state government was also committed to the welfare of nurses in the state by providing them a conducive working environment to enhance their jobs.
She said the present administration had to listen to the nurses’ complaints because their activities were important to its improved healthcare delivery.
The governor’s aide advised the nurses to be disciplined and adher strictly to the ethics of the profession, noting that these qualities would renew their wellbeing.
Elegbede assured them that her office would always listen to constructive advice from them to facilitate improved health for all and transform healthcare delivery in the state.
