Court remands man in prison over alleged ritual act
A Magistrate Court in Ilorin, Tuesday, ordered a suspected kidnapper to be remanded in prison custody.
Magistrate Moses Adeniyi who ordered the remand of the accused in Mondala Prison Yard, Ilorin, adjourned the case to June 18 for mention.
The suspect, Jacob Olaniyan, was alleged to have stabbed Mrs. Popoola Bola, a teacher with Dolapo Group of Schools all over the body with a knife on May 31, along Tanke Area, Ilorin for ritual purposes.
According to the charge sheet, the prosecutor, Police Inspector Baliqees Adu, told the court that the accused stabbed the victim when she was going to buy food during breakfast.
He added that the victim was rescued unconscious by some roadside mechanics while shouting for help.
The prosecutor, further told the court that investigation revealed that the accused was a habitual criminal that had killed a mother and daughter at Tanke area some five years ago.
According to her, "The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of causing grievous hurt and attempt to commit culpable homicide contrary to Sections 248 of the Penal Code Law."
She however objected to the bail of the accused on ground that the alleged offences were not ordinarily bailable.
In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mr. Moses Adeniyi ordered the remand of the accused in Mondala Prison Yard, Ilorin and adjourned the case to June 18 for mention.
