Kwara reiterates commitment to science education

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving teaching and learning of science education in the state.
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimago stated this during the presentation of Chemistry laboratory equipment to  Model Secondary School, Ilorin.
The equipment was at the instance of a corps member serving at College of Education, Ilorin, Corper Mohammed Kayode as part of his contributions to enhance practical aspect of teaching in secondary schools.
Onimago said the state government's zeal for the science education was among the reasons for establishment of Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology.
Represented by Pastor Solomon Adekunle, the commissioner stressed the importance of science education in ensuring rapid growth and development of any society.
He commended the corps member for the initiative and urged others to emulate him for them to be self-employed in their choosing careers.
In his remark, the Provost of the College, Dr. Isiaka Saka Opobiyi, who also emphasized the importance of science education, said the initiative was very laudable as it aimed at exposing students to practical aspect of science of education.
Dr. Opobiyi lauded the initiator, assuring that the door of the college would always be open for such laudable initiative as a way of ensuring excellent academic performance.
The provost also assured the public of the college's readiness to focus on staff welfare to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
The principal of Model College, Mr. Amao praised the corps member for the gesture, promising that the equipment would be used for intended purpose to enhance academic performance of the students.
He also expressed gratitude to the provost for facilitating the donation of the project to the school.
The initiator of the project, Corper Mohammed Kayode said the project was borne out of his decision to improve teaching and learning of Chemistry especially in secondary schools.
He observed that many students see Chemistry as very abstract subject because of the inability of schools to expose them to practical aspect of learning, calling on stakeholders to encourage practical aspect in teaching and learning especially science subjects.
Kayode studied Chemistry Education at the University of Uyo.
