'We are Committed to Mother, Child Safety'
In his bid to further strengthen the health sector, the Kwara State governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that the state’s Community Health Insurance Scheme will drive his administration’s effort in the promotion of maternal and child care programmes in the state.
The governor gave this assurance yesterday when a delegation from Wellbeing Foundation Africa, a non-governmental organisation founded by the wife of the former governor of Kwara State, Barrister Toyin Saraki, paid him a courtesy visit.
The governor also stressed the importance of advocacy in making sure that the people, especially those at the grassroots, are better informed about healthcare programmes in order to adequately utilise such facilities.
“The State Government will soon employ more sanitary inspectors as part of efforts to boost sanitary conditions and promote good health in the state, especially at the grassroots”, he added.
Governor Ahmed, however, reiterated the resolve of his administration to partner with NGOs in the delivery of qualitative health care in the state.
Meanwhile, the Team Leader, Mr. Tayo Erogbogbo said that the foundation was committed to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in Africa.
He said that Nigeria had one of the highest mother and child mortality rates in the world, hence the need for all stakeholders to partner in bringing the situation under control.
