Sachet Water Sells for N12 in Kwara as Producers Embark on Strike
The Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria in Kwara State has embarked on an indefinite strike action over attacks on their supply vehicles by some people.
Community News gathered that a sachet of water sells for N10, while a bag of 20 units is sold for N120 in the past few months, the development which some consumers described as exploitative when compared to what obtains in other neighbouring states.
Speaking with Community News in Ilorin, recently, the secretary of the association in the state, Alhaji Musa Kayode, when he announced the commencement of the strike, said the strike became inevitable following series of attacks on their vehicles leading to losses.
Alhaji Kayode, who said the association had reported the matter to the law enforcement agents without any positive response, appealed to people to show understanding.
However, it was gathered that the strike had led to slight increase in the price of sachet water in some parts of IIorin metropolis as a sachet of water now attracts N12 instead of former N10, while a bag is sold between N120 and N140.
Also speaking on the development, Special Adviser to the Kwara State governor on Transport and Utility, Alhaji Bibire Ajape, said government was addressing the matter with a view to solving it.
