Move Away from Flood Prone Areas, Ahmed Directs Kwarans
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has directed Kwarans living in flood prone areas to vacate the areas immediately.
He said that this directive became necessary to ensure the security of lives and property.
Ahmed, who described the flood that swept across some Local Government Areas of the state, last year as unprecedented, and pledged that the government would do its utmost to prevent a recurrence.
Speaking at this month’s edition of “Governor Explains”, Ahmed urged traditional rulers of the riverine communities to encourage their subjects to relocate from the flood prone areas and said that aside from the relief grant from the federal government, the state spent fortunes on the rehabilitation of last year’s flood victims.
The governor cautioned against politicising the issue in order not to deny the state the development it ought to attain.
Ahmed said that contiguous states must not allow differences in party affiliation to discourage their coming together to execute projects or programmes that were of mutual benefit to their economy and welfare of their people.
The governor said that the state owned companies now under Harmony Holdings, a firm set up by the government were now thriving better than they did when they operated separately.
