Kwara NYSC Temporary Camp Safe and Conducive, Says Coordinator
The Kwara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Onifade Joshua, has said that the scheme's temporary orientation camp, located within Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, is safe and conducive for corps members.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the NYSC boss said the camp was moved to its temporary location because of concerns and misinformation about insecurity at the permanent orientation camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, emphasising that the current environment is peaceful and secure.
Onifade said that the corps members currently in the orientation camp are participants in the 2026 Batch B Orientation Course, numbering about 2,000 youths.
He also said that the government is sensitive to the welfare and safety of corps members, as well as security personnel, noting that the service is not taking anything for granted.
"These young people are the future of Nigeria," he said.
"We know that it is God who keeps us alive, but in our own capacity, both the federal and state governments have put measures in place to ensure the safety of corps members, in order for them to have a memorable and positive service year," he said.
The Kwara State NYSC coordinator said the objectives of the scheme focus on orientation, primary assignment, and personal development.
"We help corps members overcome fears, especially concerns about insecurity. We expose them to different skills acquisition programmes and encourage them to develop skills that can support them in the future," he said.
He added that whenever corps members have cause to travel or leave the camp officially, their parents are informed about the development, while the service releases them early enough for the journey.
