DPO Shoots Man to Death in Offa
The fragile peace in Offa, Kwara State, after a clash with neighbouring Erin Ile community, has been punctured again with the alleged killing of a middle-aged man, on Friday morning, by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Railway Station in the town.
It was gathered that the deceased, who had come to visit his elder brother, Jinanwa Nwakanma (from Enugu State), a motor spare parts seller at Owode market, went to ease himself in the bush behind the police station when he was allegedly shot dead by the police chief.
Spare parts sellers in the town, who are mostly Igbo, it was learnt, thereafter trooped to the police station to express their displeasure.
Though there was no pandemonium in the town as a result of the alleged killing, there was palpable apprehension among the people.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Fabode (DSP), said he was yet to be briefed on the development.
He promised to give details of the development as soon as he received information from his colleagues in Offa.
