The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has rallied behind Kwara United Football Club ahead of their 2025 President's Federation Cup final clash with Abakaliki FC.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the match is scheduled for Saturday, 28 June 2025, at Onikan Stadium, Lagos. During a visit by the team to his palace on Monday, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, a former Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Football Association (NFA), urged the players to remain focused and determined, stating: "Bring a major national trophy home to Kwara State."

The traditional ruler reaffirmed his prayers for the team's success, emphasizing the pride of securing victory in Nigeria's oldest football competition. His support underscores the state's cultural and historical ties to football, given his prior leadership role in the NFA.

Sulu-Gambari further said: "I was once an official of Shooting Stars and the Nigeria Football Federation. I know what is at stake in a crucial match like this. Prepare well, remain focused, and stay united. We will continue to pray for your success."

The emir however commended the team's efforts so far and emphasized the importance of discipline, unity, and hard work, adding that their victory would bring immense pride to the entire Ilorin Emirate and the state at large.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, described the royal blessings from the Emir as a consistent source of inspiration for the team.

He reaffirmed that if the team triumphs in Lagos, the palace would be the first place they would bring the trophy in appreciation.
