Flood Control: FG Sets to Dredge Asa River in Kwara - Tunji Morounfoye
In a bid to control flood in Kwara State, the Federal Government is set to commence the channelization of Asa River and its tributaries in IIorin, the Kwara State capital.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Prince Tunji Morounfoye, who disclosed this while speaking with Royal Times correspondent, said the Federal Ministry of Environment has awarded the dredging contract to AMBICO SENDIRIAN Nigeria Limited with Messrs Yola Consultants as project consultant.
According to the commissioner, formal site handing over of the project will take place within two weeks counting from January 28, 2013, in which contractors have been advised to mobilize towards the commencement of the work immediately.
While assuring the people of the state that the contractor will execute the job on time in line with specification, Prince Moronfoye said the expansion of the Asa River would put an end to annual flood being experienced in some parts of the state capital as well as improving the economic activities of the state.
Reiterating the determination of the state government to continue providing amenities that will make life more meaningful for the people of the state, he praised the efforts of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for ensuring the award of the contract.
