Kwara ACReSAL Project Gains Support from Onijagbo
According to a news report from News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) team paid an advocacy visit to the palace of Oba Buhari Sharafa, the Onijagbo of Ijagbo, on Saturday to expedite the project's implementation.
The visit to the Onijagbo of Ijagbo land in Oyun LGA is part of the initiative targeting six selected communities for the establishment of nurseries for planting economically and environmentally valuable trees.
Shamsideen Aregbe, the project coordinator in Kwara, explained that the mission aims to secure five hectares of land from the Ijagbo community to establish these nurseries.
The Onijagbo praised the ACReSAL central nursery project as a significant initiative. The traditional ruler expressed his unwavering support and commitment to the project's success.
He said the project would not only facilitate greater socio-economic development but also improve his people's livelihood.
Mr Sharafa promised to relate with his subjects to earmark suitable land for the prompt commencement of the project.
Mr Aregbe explained that six communities, including Ijagbo, have been selected to establish the central nursery project in Kwara.
He emphasised that the ACReSAL project was a partnership between the World Bank and the Kwara government, stressing that the project was also being implemented in 19 other northern states and Abuja.
He also mentioned that the project would serve the Ijagbo community and the neighbouring ones. He allayed fears and assured them that the community would still own the land to be used for the project.
