Burundi, Ethiopian delegation hail Kwara education
The spokesman of a 10- man delegation of educationists and education administrators from Ethiopia and Burundi, Mr. Nigussu Tilahun, on Thursday in Ilorin said the education system in Kwara State was commendable.
Tilahun added that the state had great propensity to achieve high quality education.
The delegation came to Kwara State to explore areas of cooperation in management, inspection and supervision of educational programmes.
Tilahun, who is Commissioner for Education in Amhara State of Ethiopia, said the delegation discovered that the government placed high emphasis on human capital development and training of educational professionals.
He said the development of the education sector would boost national transformation. "We have seen that the education system in Kwara State is commendable. There is great effort in personnel development to further improve on the quality of education. We have seen different departments in the ministry of education. We have seen that the education system is very promising and we have taken some good lessons for our country."
He, however, said there was the need to upgrade infrastructure, especially in rural areas. According to him, some schools in the rural areas do not have toilets and water supply. He added that the schools should also be fenced to enhance security.
"We have seen that the rural areas have good access to education. But more attention should be paid to provision of infrastructure and utilities like toilets. Also the compound should be fenced.
"The pupils do not have enough toilets, schools have no fence and there is no water around. If all these problems are tackled, the education system would be improved."
