Kwara State Takes Action: Confiscated Poisonous Meat Buried

Date: 2024-04-24

According to a report from Leadership, the Kwara State government has taken decisive steps in response to the recent incident of poisonous meat discovered in the Adewole area of Ilorin, the state capital.

In addition to burying the confiscated meat, the government has implemented measures to safeguard public health and prevent further consumption of the contaminated meat.

Mrs. Funke Sokoya, the permanent secretary of the state's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, announced that the government, in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Iyaloja of Mandate Market, Ilorin, has agreed to suspend slaughtering activities for three days. This pause will facilitate thorough fumigation of the slaughter slab to ensure sanitation and safety.

“Meanwhile, a preliminary investigation on the incident shows that the cause of the ugly incident was as a result of grazing on contaminated grasses around the area,” the permanent secretary said.

She said that her ministry would intensify its surveillance at the private and government abattoirs across the state.
