Husband Seeks Divorce over Wife's Late Night Habit

Date: 2013-01-04

A 30-year-old Man, Suleman Mohammed of Ojagboro area, Ilorin, on Thursday urged an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve his two year old marriage to Silifat because she keeps late nights. Suleman also alleged that his wife was a liar and insincere to their matrimonial union.

"My wife formulates lies to justify her lateness whenever she is back from market," he said. Suleman told the court that his wife was fond of insulting his parents, citing an instance when she called his mother "Amebo", when she attempted to mediate in their misunderstanding.

He told the court that their marriage was contracted in 2011 and blessed with six-month-old Muftau. "I cannot imagine a housewife coming home around 11.00 pm., claiming it was due to business without considering her husband at home."

Reacting, Salifat said she was not ready for any divorce for the sake of her only child. "I keep late night because I was the only one responsible for the family needs since my husband was not ready to attend to his family needs," she said, and prayed the court not to grant her husband's prayer.

The presiding judge, Mr Ibrahim Abdulquadri, adjourned the case to January 9, for possible reconciliation and further hearing. (NAN)
