NYG 2023: Kwara wins first gold medal
Kwara State has won its first gold at the ongoing 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
Ahmed Fatimoh and Faruq Hussein gave the state the first gold medal with their brilliant outing in the table tennis mixed double category.
The duo defeated their counterparts from Delta State by three straight sets (15, 7; 15, 8; and 25, 7).
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had committed huge resources to improve the sports sector of the state, including infrastructure renewal and better welfare for athletes.
Coach Kehinde Aiyelabegan told journalists that the athletes went through rigorous training at the open and close camps before the national championship.
Kwara won its first medals barely 24 hours after the opening ceremony of the contest. Hopes are high that more medals will follow for Team Kwara after new feat of gold medal in the games.
