NURTW Boss Wants Unauthorised Motor Parks Closed
The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, has called on the Kwara State government to ban the operations of all unauthorised motor parks in Ilorin, the state capital.
Alhaji Yasin observed that it was only Ilorin in the entire North Central states in the country that motor parks emerged at every location without proper coordination.
He appealed to the state government to build a general and decent motor park where vehicles would be loading their passengers and duly monitored.
He said the union had banned the sales of alcohol in all motor parks across the country as a means of checking drivers from getting drunk before embarking on journey, adding that it would be difficult for drivers to drink when their vehicles were already loaded with passengers.
Alhaji Yasin, also urged various tiers of government to embark on mass Transit scheme and go into partnership with the NURTW through loan as a way of empowering their members, stressing that government could not successfully handle transportation business.
The president urged his members to guide against any act that could tarnish their names or that of the union.
He disclosed that since he came into the office, he had embarked on advocacy and enlightenment programme on the need for their members to be disciplined and guide against any act of lawlessness.
