Kwara PDP releases guidelines for ward, local government congresses

Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has released the guidelines for its wards and local government areas congresses slated to hold across the State.

A statement by the state party Chairman, Engr. Kola Shittu, said the guidelines were unanimously agreed upon to be followed strictly in choosing the wards and local government areas officials.

According to the guidelines, any executive member at the ward and local government levels, who has spent a cumulative period of eight years and above in the executive position capacity, should step aside to enable new party members contest for the available positions in the state's forthcoming congresses.

The guidelines also directed that women should be allowed 30 percent of the available positions at both ward and local government levels.

Also, at both ward and local government levels, 30 percent of the executive members should be new faces who have not held any position previously or in the past.

"No individual, groups or association are allowed to influence whether directly or indirectly the choice of executive members," the statement added.

It explained that "where zoning is applicable, due to the peculiarities in ward and local government areas, competence of individual candidates shall take prominence."

A state executive member from each local government area of the state will oversee and superintendent over the conduct of the congresses.

The agreed list of the executive members from each ward and local government areas must be submitted to the state party secretariat on or before Wednesday September 1st, 2021.
