2023: Women demand leadership equity

The League of Women Voters in Nigeria (NILOWV), an NGO, has called for equity for Nigerian women to attain leadership roles by 2023.

Mrs Folashade Aransiola, the Chairperson of NILOWV, made the appeal on Wednesday in Ilorin at a physical engagement and capacity building of female elective position aspirants in Kwara.

According to her, Nigerian women have the potential to lead and all stakeholders must give the necessary support for them to excel in leadership role.

She advised women vying for elective position in the state to educate the public on their social and economic advantage and their roles in nation building as well.

Aransiola who explained that women are the leaders of tomorrow, also noted that if one educate a woman, she would educate the world.

She therefore called for more participation of women in the upcoming 2023 general election in the state.

Also speaking, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the Kwara Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, pledged the support of the present administration for women in leadership position.

She enjoined women to further support the cause of women to make a difference in the life of the nation.

The Chief Executive of Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation, Mrs Christiana Oluwole, appealed to both federal and state governments to be gender sensitive in terms of political patronage.

While charging women to actively participate in the nation's politics, she noted that about 60 per cent of Nigerian population are women. (NAN)
