I'll ensure working relationship with lawmakers - Ahmed
THE Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdul-fatah Ahmed, has promised to ensure a harmonious working relationship with the newly-inaugurated legislature, to enhance the overall development of the state.
Receiving members of the state House of Assembly, led by the speaker, Honourable Rasaq Atunwa, at the Government House, the governor, who congratulated the legislators on their inauguration, promised to create an enabling environment to facilitate effective legislation that would assist government in turning around the fortune of the state.
“For us in the executive arm, we will continue to play a vital role of carrying government business in the right direction and ensuring that we work within the confines of what the law provides.
“This will allow for a smooth relationship between the executive and legislature, because we cannot carry governance all alone, it has to be complimentary,” he said.
Alhaji Ahmed, who noted with satisfaction the choice of the new leadership of the House, expressed hope that it would enhance the quality of legislation and build on the achievements of the sixth legislature.
He told the lawmakers that his administration had taken pragmatic steps to create a platform that would take the state to the next level and ensure overall development of all sectors of the economy, to enable the citizenry to reap the dividends of democracy.
Governor Ahmed, who promised to continue to sustain the tempo of transformation witnessed in the state in the last eight years, also called for cooperation from members of the legislature, with a view to enhancing good governance.
Earlier, Honourable Atunwa had told the governor that they were at the Government House to thank him for attending their inauguration and also pledged their support to his administration.
He assured the governor that the lawmakers would pay prompt attention to the passage of bills as well as speedy screening and clearance of the governor’s Commissioners list whenever forwarded to the House.
Atunwa, who also pledged cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms, expressed confidence that the new government will work extra hours to take the State to the next level.
