Date: 2020-06-26

No fewer than 665 households in Kwara State affected by rainstorm have been given relief materials by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The rainstorm blew off rooftops, destroyed walls, affected foodstuff and collapsed buildings in Irepodun, Isin, Oke-Ero and Ekiti local government areas of the state.

The items distributed included 665 bags of rice, 665 bags of beans, 665 bags of garri, 66 kegs of 20 of vegetable oil, 33 bags of salt, 66 cartons of seasoning and 110 cartons of tin tomato.

Others were 1,300 mattresses, 1,995 mosquito nets, 1,995 blankets, 600 bags of cement, 600 bundles of roofing sheets, 75 bags of nails, 150 packets of zinc nails and 600 pieces of ceiling board.

While presenting the items to the affected people at Omu-Aran, headquarters of Irepodun LGA, NEMA's Director General, AVM Muhammadu Mohammed, said the gesture followed an assessment report received by the agency.

The NEMA DG, who was represented by Wagami Lydia, Head, Minna Operations Office of NEMA, said a large number of people in four local government areas were affected.

"Based on the report, the Federal Government graciously approved relief materials to support the Kwara State Government in cushioning the negative result of the disaster," he said.

The Member representing Irepodun, Isin, Oke-ero and Ekiti Federal Constituency, Abdulrahim Ajulo, commended the Federal Government, while urging the beneficiaries to use the relief materials judiciously

Two victims of the rainstorm, Bidemi Waheed and Williams Bola, while thanking the government on behalf of the affected persons, described the gesture as timely.
