Flooding: Community wants dredging of River Niger to be expanded

The Patigi Community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State have appealed to the federal government to dredge River Niger from Baro to Jebba, to curb the perennial flooding experienced in Patigi and Edu local government areas.

A delegation of the Old Students Association of Patigi Secondary School, Patigi, led by the Etsu Patigi Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, made the call when they paid a courtesy call on Kwara State Governor, Mr AbdulRahman AbdulRazak in Ilorin, the State capital.

The delegation, which included the Etsu Tsaragi Aliyu Ndakpotwa Abdullahi; former Head of Service, Mohammed Dabarako; and former Permanent Secretary Mohammed Koro, said the communities lost their farm lands and belonging to flooding each time the Niger overflows it's bank.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak commended the people of Patigi for the visit, explained that the 31 schools currently being renovated was the first phase of the rehabilitation of education facilities in the state.
