'Ahmed, ex-Kwara gov, didn't pay us 11-month pensions'

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Kwara State, Alhaji Saidu Oladimeji, has said the former governor of the state, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, owed local government pensioners 11 months' pensions amounting to N4,744,331,675.32.

The NUP chairman stated this while reacting to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the former governor, Abdulwahab Oba, who said the former administration did not owe workers in the state any salary.

The NUP chairman said the former governor owed pensioners in the 16 local government areas accumulated pensions of 11 months.

He told our correspondent that "the ex-governor owed local government pensioners 11 months mutilated pensions amounting to N4, 744,331,675.32.

"Sometimes, he paid the pensioners 30 per cent and sometimes 10 per cent of their monthly pensions.

"Apart from the seven months full pensions that he did not pay to the local government pensioners, the total balance of the mutilated pensions amounted to 11 months which he owed.

"Apart from the local governments' pensioners, the former governor also owed others such as Water Corporation and Kwara Express Pensioners."

Oladimeji added that the state government owed pensioners, N11bn gratuities to pensioners which had accumulated since 2009.
