Kwara Governor-elect vows investigation into Offa robbery

Date: 2019-03-11

The attack led to the death 33 persons and the looting of some banks in the area.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki was linked to the attack due to the alleged confessions of some of the suspects arrested by the police.

It was a prolonged battle between the former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and Saraki over the matter.

It took the intervention of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami who insisted that Saraki was innocent and the case died a natural death.

Meanwhile, while delivering his acceptance speech at a media briefing in the midst of All Progressive Congress (APC) party supporters on Sunday night, Abdulrazaq noted that the state had become insecure, crippling banking operations in Kwara south senatorial zone as a result of the incident.

He said: "This development is seriously affecting the economic development in the zone. We will interface with the Police to address the challenge of insecurity.

"The Offa robbery where 33 people were killed, based on police investigation was linked to top government officials."

He promised that his administration will be accountable to the people and will not steal or loot the state's treasury.

Abdulrazaq of APC emerged winner of the Saturday governorship election having polled a total of 331,546 votes to defeat Abdulrazaq Atunwa of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 114,754 votes.

APC also won all the 24 seats in the Kwara House of Assembly.

Recall that Saraki lost his reelection bid and control of the state with the defeat of PDP in the general elections that took place in the state.
