Dignitaries grace Dan-Iya's fidau in Ilorin

There was a large turnout of dignitaries at the Emir's Palace, Ilorin yesterday as prayers were offered for the repose of the soul of the departed Dan Iya of Ilorin who was also the Daudu Agaka, Alhaji Ibrahim Kawu. Among the personalities at the event were; the Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Kwara State, Comrade Issa Aremu; member of the Federal House of Representatives, Dr Abubakar Amuda Kannike; the Chairman of Sobi FM, Ilorin, Alhaji Lukman Mustapha and Barr. Kehinde Eleja, SAN, among others.

Speaking on the last wish of the deceased, his son, Alhaji Shuaib Baba Kawu Agaka said his father tasked them to unite and follow in his path while alive. "He also charged us to be good to everyone and never do anything against Allah's will."

Shuaib described the late Dan Iya as honest man and experienced civil servant who dedicated himself to the service of Ilorin Emirate and humanity in general. In his sermon, the Grand Mukadam of Ilorin, Sheikh Suleiman Dan-Borno warned politicians against violence to avoid the wrath of God.

Dan-Borno noted that the present political atmosphere in the state calls for sober reflection. He said what must be paramount to political gladiators is their contribution to the development and sustainability of the Ilorin community and Kwara State in general. The cleric implored the people of Ilorin community to love one another and avoid any destructive tendencies in the name of politics.

The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Soliu who led the prayer session, prayed Allah to grant the departed soul Aljanah firdaous and the family he left behind, the fortitude to bear the loss. Daudu Agaka who died last Monday at the age of 87 was turbaned by the 9th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari Mohammed in 1987. He became the 1st Dan-Iya of Ilorin on November 26th 1993.

He was survived by two wives, Hajia Afusat Kawu Agaka and Hajia Memunat Kawu Agaka as well as children, grand children and great grand children including Adesina Kawu Agaka, Shuaib Baba Kawu Agaka, Atolagbe Kawu Agaka and Olayinka Kawu Agaka.
