...tasks new excos on professionalism

Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad has congratulated the newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Mallam Umar Abdulwahab and his team on their victories, charging them to strive towards sustenance and improvement of their predecessors' legacies.

Ahmad, in a congratulatory message issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Shuaib Abdulkadir on Friday challenged the newly sworn-in executive to hit the ground running.

He said that journalism as the Fourth Estate of the Realm has always played a vital role in the country's affairs, noting that the much celebrated democracy in Nigeria would not have been possible without the support and active participation of practitioners in the field.

The Speaker added that journalists toiled day and night to ensure that masses are duely informed and carried along on government policies and governance and therefore must at all times be accorded their due recognition in the society.

The Speaker added that to remain one of the leading professions in Nigeria, the union must ensure that its ethics are strongly upheld, regardless of the situation, stressing that journalists must remain shinning examples to the society.

Ahmad hailed the union for organising a peaceful, free and fair election while commending the manners the members conducted themselves throughout the processes that ushered in the new executive.

While challenging them to brace up for the task ahead, the Speaker admonished the newly sworn-in executives to deem it necessary to run an all inclusive administration that would further propel the union to the highest height.

He lauded the outgone Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem's led administration for its track record of achievements in 6 years at the Council, saying that it had laid a solid foundation and set the tone for its predecessors to even surpass the feat.

Charging the new Chairman to demonstrate his professionalism by bringing to bear his years of experience to better the union's lot, Ahmad also called on members to support and cooperate with the new executives in order to succeed in the arduous task.
