Ahmed Inaugurates Resource Centre
Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has inaugurated the state's education resource centre.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ahmed said the centre was set up for the training of teachers in micro-science kits and the new methodology for effective teaching and learning.
According to him, the resource centre was built to implement the government's policy of "Every Child Counts."
He reiterated his pledge to partner with the Universal Basic Education Board to ensure that the state emerged the leader in the education sector.
"This is a vision that would transform Kwara into an educational hub where teachers and students alike are the best among their peers across the world, especially in the field of science and technology," he said.
Earlier in his speech, Alhaji Saka Onimago, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, said the centre would support teachers in the improvisation and production of instructional materials using local content.
He said that teachers to be trained at the centre would be drawn from basic schools across the 16 local government areas of the state.
"There has been patronage for our instructional materials, distilled water and hexagonal desks from international organisations, local governments and some states outside Kwara," he said.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Lanre Daibu, said the resource centre was a demonstration of government's continuous reform programmes to improve the quality of teachers.
