Controversy hits Kwara Utd over Obuh exit

Date: 2018-03-13

Struggling Premier League outfit Kwara United were plunged into controversy on Monday over the exit of the manager of the side John Obuh.

The Ilorin club, who are 20th in the league table on 11 points from 12 matches, said in a statement on their official Twitter handle former Flying Eagles coach Obuh had left the club by mutual agreement.

"The management of Kwara United FC has mutually agreed to part ways with coach John Obuh following the not 'too impressive performance' of the club in the Nigeria Professional Football League," the statement by the club's spokesman Abdulwaheed Bibire said.

"The two parties reached a compromise following a meeting facilitated by the Kwara State Football Association Chairman Mallam Busari Ishola.

"The decision became necessary in view of the yearnings and aspirations of the stakeholders to move the club forward."

The statement added, "The management also wishes the out-gone gaffer the best in his future endeavours. The management also assures the teeming fans and supporters of the club that a substantive technical adviser would be named as soon as possible to avoid creating a vacuum."

But Obuh, who was given a three-match ultimatum to save his job but could not to revive the team's fortunes, insisted he left of his own volition.

Kwara United, who won the Northern Conference of the National League to gain promotion to the Nigerian topflight last season, lost 1-0 to Rivers United in Ilorin before travelling to lose 1-0 to Abia Warriors in Umuahia. Their last match on Sunday ended in a 1-1 draw 1-1 with El-Kanemi Warriors in Ilorin.

"I resigned because the results were not forthcoming," Obuh was quoted by SCORENigeria as saying on Monday."I do not blame anyone for this.

"I want to return to my family now after which I will know what next to do as a coach."
