Man Arraigned Over Suspected Stolen Property

One Tunde Shitu Tiamiyu of Araromi area, Oyo State who was found in possession of an alleged stolen GSM handset has been dragged before an Ilorin Magistrate's Court.

The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of being in possession of thing reasonably suspected to have been stolen, which contravened Section 319A of the Penal Code Law.

Prior to the arrest of the accused, one Mrs. Adewale Mujidat Moturayo of Oko-Olowo Area, Ilorin had on January 29, 2018 lodged a compliant to the Police, Kwara State Command, Ilorin that his house was bugled and his property were carted away.

According to the complainant, on November 8, 2017 unknown persons criminally trespassed into her compound and carted away her belongings including her Tecno W5-light GSM handset valued at the N40,000.

However, on receiving the complaint, the IMEI number of the said GSM handset was used to track the GSM handset which was traced to the accused in Oyo State. The accused was subsequently arrested with the GSM handset found in his possession.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that during the course of investigation at State Intelligence Bureau, Police Headquarters, Ilorin the accused could not give satisfactory account of the said handset which was recovered from his possession. The prosecutor, Corporal Ayeni Gbenga told the court that investigation into the case was in progress and left the bail of the accused to the discretion of the court.

The Magistrate, Mrs. M.G. Kamson in her ruling granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in the same amount. She adjourned the case to March 21, 2018 for further mention.
