Date: 2018-02-23

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad has called for calm among the 2 warring communities of Offa and Ijagbo in Offa and Oyun Local Government Areas of the State.

Dr Ahmad made the call in Ilorin, while reacting to the outbreak of crisis between the communities.

The Speaker in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdul Rahman Sanni, expressed displeasure over the outbreak of violence between the 2 communities, which he noted had co- existed peacefully for hundred of years.

He disclosed that no meaningful development could be attained in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony, pointing out that harmony which he said was "the treasure of the state, was sacrosanct and should be protected by all and sundry".

Dr Ahmad assured that the legislative arm of government under his watch, would continue to collaborate with relevant government agencies and other stakeholders in sustaining the slogan of state of harmony.

He therefore called on the monarch and opinion leaders of the 2 warring communities, to be at the vanguard of restoring peace in the 2 ancient towns, to further enhance the socio- economic transformation of the area.
