2018: A Fresh Opportunity to Reshape Nigeria's Future - Rt Hon Razak Atunwa

Date: 2018-01-01

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to welcome 2018, we are reminded that every new year offers a unique opportunity to correct errors of the past, renew our commitment for a brighter future and set out early to make the year count.

As a nation, we must thank God for the significant achievements of 2017 including overcoming economic recession, significant reduction in operation of Boko Haram terrorist group, fight against corruption among others.

As impressive as these achievements are, we must not overlook the fact that for many, life was not a bed of roses in 2017; poor economic performance, lack of employment opportunities, and the recent fuel scarcity crisis. These, among other issues, touch the very foundation of life in Nigeria.

While we cannot reverse the events of the past, 2018 offers us a fresh opportunity to reshape Nigeria's future. With a fast growing population and huge infrastructural deficit, the government no doubt has a pivotal role to play to meet the demands of the populace faced with daunting challenges.

Therefore, I urge public office holders at all levels to be "Nigeria-focused" in 2018. As anchors conveying the mandate of the people, let purposeful efforts be channeled toward implementing economic, social and political solutions that will foster progress and unity in Nigeria.

I also urge Nigerians to unite against the country's challenges and support government effort in improving the nation in all spheres. As a legislator, I will continue to use my best endeavour to seek important reforms that will touch the lives of the people.

Congratulations on the dawn of a New year and I wish you all a prosperous 2018!

Signed

Razak Atunwa
