Christmas: Kwara Poly deputy rector harps on giving

Date: 2017-12-11

The essence of Christmas is giving to less privileged in the society so that they can share in the joy of the season.

This was the submission of the Deputy Rector, Administration, Kwara State Polytechnic, Mrs. Olubunmi Ajibade at the third edition of the Christmas carol of the institution held at the school premises recently. The carol is an annual event organised by the Christian community in the institution to usher in Christmas celebration.

Ajibade, who said that God exemplified the virtue of generosity by giving His only begotten Son, Jesus to the world, urged Christians to imbibe the act of sharing their resource with others.

She, however, noted that Christmas is the most unique of all religious events in the world, adding that the carol was meant to reawaken the Christian community in the institution to always put God first in all areas of endeavour.

In his sermon at the event, Rev. Bola Paimo of Royal Covenant Assembly, Sango, Ilorin, admonished Christians to always remember that Christ was born to set the oppressed free, free the world from sin and restore peace, which devil has taken away from man.

According to him, the Bible has made it clear why Jesus was born, adding that His coming was prophesied several years before he was born. He enjoined Christians to always exhibit godly virtues, so as to be worthy examples for the world to see.

In her remarks, Chairman of the Carol Committee, Mrs B. R. Akangbe, stress the need for Christians in the institution to peacefully co-exist with others.

She said the event is meant to spread the gospel of good tidings within and outside the polytechnic in line with biblical injunction. Highlight of the event included rendition of songs by the polytechnic staff mass choir, Institute of Technology Choir and drama presentation, among others.
