Date: 2017-03-18

Dr Ali Ahmad, the Speaker, Kwara House of Assembly, has given cash gifts and two motorcycles to a vigilance group in llorin to improve security in their areas.

Ahmad made the donation in his office when members of the vigilance group from the llorin South and Ilorin East paid him a courtesy visit on Friday.

The speaker said the donation was to assist the group to provide adequate security in the state.

Ahmad stressed the need for organisations and individuals to support vigilance groups to boost internal security across the state.

He emphasised the need for government at all levels to assist the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in its activities.

Ahmad said that such assistance would greatly assist in reducing crimes and criminality as well as strengthen the nation's security.

He said that meaningful development could only be achieved when there were security of lives and properties.

Ahmad said that vigilance groups were the closest to the grassroots among all security agencies in the country.

He advised other security agencies in the country to sustain existing cordial relationship with the group to achieve a crime-free society.

Ahmad said the State House of Assembly would collaborate with the group and offer support where necessary to enhance its performance.

Earlier, Mr Muhammed Jamiu, the Area Commandant of the group in Ilorin East Local Government, had sought the assembly's support for their operations.
