Kwara: Pay our bursary now, students tells Gov Ahmed

Date: 2017-01-30

KWARA State students under the aegis of Ilorin Emirate Students' Union have called on Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to pay their bursary which was stopped about five years ago.

The students, who described bursary as their right, said they are not happy with the non- payment, which according to them, is the only way of weighing government's love for them.

National President of the association, Adelodun Haroona Bolaji, while speaking at a stakeholders' meeting of the union in Ilorin, yesterday, said government should always consider their interest in everything it does.

"A community that wants a better and brighter future takes into cognizance the existence of youths and considers them in all decision that it makes.

"A hungry man is an angry man, how do we intend to make our society a better one when we do not take care of young minds? The students are angry, they want their rights. Bursary is a right, not a privilege, a right which was last recongnised about five years ago."

Bolaji also appealed to the governor not to be selective and eschew favouritism in the payment of scholarship. He called on the governor to adopt a method that will be fair to indigenous students by ensuring that scholarship gets to those who need it the most.
